I was expecting something exciting to finish the book with a bang. I feel like the book never really ended, Holden just stopped telling his story.

I agree with Baba and Mama Bear on this one. I feel that there should have been some more kind of action, like what he did next. I wanted it to be more intense because the story had all these big things in it and it end up kind of depressing, just someone sitting in a rest home. I didn’t expect for it to end the way it did. My hopes of the catcher in the rye were shattered in the end because the author didn’t make clear of what actually happened to Holden. All the things that are leading up to the end, ends up being summarized in one paragraph in the last chapter and then you get the expression, “oh it’s over”.

To be honest I didn’t think the book was good. I also expected Holden to loose his virginity and see Jane Gallagher again, but that didn’t happen either. I expected the author to describe at the end how his parents yelled at him because of his expulsion of Pencey. All the things that you thought were going to happen at the end of the book didn’t. I thought the ending to the catcher in the rye was pretty dumb. I got very disappointed with the end of this book. I thought that at the end Holden was going to change and he was going to feel sorry about all the things that had happened to him.

I agree with you babba12345, I also expected more stuff going on at the end of the book. I wonder why the author chose to end the story like this, I wonder if he actually had a real reason for it, or if he just thought it fit well. I kind of did like the ending though, it’s no fun when you can predict the ending to a movie or book, and I definitely would not have been able to predict this ending.

Through out the whole book there was so much going on, the events were non stop, than all of a sudden the story was just over. I agree with you Mama Bear I also expected a more eventful ending.
