If you don't save him, he drops Leather Armor +1, a Short Sword +1, and a few Bullets +2. Kill the Wolfweres, and if you manage to save Coran, he thanks you profusely before leaving. To leave the area, go to any border of the map. You have to find your way around by walking on the fallen trees, which can be quite a pain. However, there is plenty of other stuff to do here.
